Cruising on your own can be a problem, because of the single supplements imposed by many cruise lines. Norwegian Cruise Line has worked hard to solve this in their most recent ships, by including a section of the ship for single occupancy cabins, called Studios.

Although the cabins are a bit smaller than double cabins, they do have a full sized bed and plenty of storage space. An added benefit is that if you are travelling with a friend, but want your own space, you can book interconnecting Studios. Then you can be together when you want, but can also have your own privacy and, more importantly, you don’t have to share the ensuite facilities.

The Studios are all ‘inside’ but feature a great porthole onto the corridor, which has one way glass and a blind. You can see this in the photos below, which I took on Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway.

All of the Studios are situated in one section of the ship, on two or three decks, and access to the area is by using your cabin key-card. There is also a lounge for exclusive use of those passengers in the Studios, so you can get to know some of the other solo travellers if you wish to.
