The Rhine flows for about 860 miles from the Alps, through Germany and the Netherlands to the North Sea, and is navigable from Basel (Basle). As you cruise along you will see an almost endless panorama of old castles, vineyards, quaint villages and small towns. Some of the most well-known places you can visit include Strasbourg, Speyer, Mannheim, Mainz, Wiesbaden, Rüdesheim, Rhine Gorge and the Lorelei Rock, Boppard, Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne (Koln), Dusseldorf and Amsterdam. As you get nearer to the sea, the river does get busier with more barges and small container ships, as the Rhine is still a very important commercial river.
Cruise lines offering Rhine cruises include all of the following – AmaWaterways, APT, Avalon Waterways, CMV Signature River Cruises, Cosmos Tours & Cruises, Emerald Waterways, Great Rail Journeys, Newmarket Holidays, Riviera Travel, Saga, Scenic, Shearings,
